Security of Your Information- the Technology and Techniques Used to Protect Your Information.

MyHealthArchive complies with all HIPAA statutory requirements, in that we will not release any healthcare information to healthcare providers without your authorization with the exception of emergency circumstances, when your MyHealthArchive ID card, wrist bracelet or ID tag will provide the needed information to healthcare providers to provide you treatment and continuity of care; and in the event we are legally compelled to provide information. You have control over what health information you want released under emergency conditions.

You will also be given a USERNAME and PASSWORD which you will use to access your information in MyHealthArchive. You may also choose to make certain information available to anyone you give your Family USERNAME and Family PASSWORD.

Finally, you may choose to make certain information availble to physicians and emergency personnel who have access to your Emergency USERNAME and Emergency PASSWORD.

You may decide to give your Emergency USERNAME and Emergency PASSWORD to your physicians. Your subscriber identification card has the necessary identification number and PIN (under a scratch-off) to access the information you specify to be released in case of emergency when you cannot speak for yourself.

The Value of Limiting Access to Medical Information

MyHealthArchive makes it easy for you to limit access to medical information, and there are many valid reasons to do so.

For one, if you have an illness that is associated with a behavior that might be embarrassing, you may prefer to keep that to yourself. For example, acquiring hepatitis C from IV drug use might be something a person who no longer uses drugs would want to release on a limited basis.

Perhaps you had a surgery that causes you some self consciousness. You might not want that discussed around the water cooler at work.

Maybe something happened to you outside your control, such as a blood transfusion that has now resulted in HIV. Perhaps you would want that released only in very limited circumstances.

Perhaps you are running for City Council. Your history of depression is realistically a fact that your opponent will use against you. You might choose to keep that to yourself.

Maybe there is actually nothing wrong, nothing that causes you to be self conscious, nothing you feel is a bad thing, but you know your mother - in law or Uncle Jerry will use whatever knowledge they have to needle you. You might choose to not release information that could get to them.

Often it is just the mere fact that personal health information is just that- personal- that makes you want to control what is released and to whom.

MyHealthArchive is a powerful tool in your arsenal, much more powerful that normal medical records systems.
