What WellnessTools Can Do For You

Wellness Tools provides the technological means to track your progress, report your successes, and work collaboratively with your healthcare provider to help you be the healthiest you can be. It is just too easy to delude ourselves about how healthy we are. When you see how you are actually doing on a graph or a log, you have to face reality and make some changes.

Wellness Tools aren’t nagging or judging you. They are not your parent or sibling or spouse making snide comments that make you feel bad. Wellness Tools are your friend who tells you the truth in a way you will actually like to be told. Especially when you succeed, then MyGraphs and MyLogs give you the tools to really seriously brag.

Wellness Tools are part of patient-centric disease management that moves the patient from the periphery to the center of health care, and thus augments patient participation and collaboration with health care providers. The effect can be long-term, promoting healthy behaviors, reducing morbidity and improving quality of life. The dynamic, self-management tools in Wellness Tools incorporate motivational features which have been designed to increase adherence to treatment plans for chronic illness. These motivational features are interactive and include logs and graphs to monitor progress in terms of nutrition, exercise, weight modification, blood glucose management, blood pressure management, and other outcomes which may impact morbidity and increased use of health care resources.

How to Use Wellness Tools: The most fundamental part of any Wellness Plan is to measure what is happening to you. Wellness Tools can be used with any plan you are using, whether something you pay to do like go to a gym or a physician –ordered plan or just a self made plan of exercise and carefully watching what you eat.

MyCalendar

MyCalendar is not linked to your Outlook or other calendar programs. While that initially might seem to be a problem, it is actually not. This is the place to put the personal stuff you want to keep track of but don’t want someone else to see. Like doctor appointments, menstrual events, medication schedule, laboratory sampling or X-ray appointments. mammography, symptoms, health events, fitness schedule, wellness events, and so forth. You can create reminders that let you know of upcoming events.

MyGraphs

The purpose of MyGraphs is to create a visual image of your health history, Knowing how your lifestyle is impacting your health gets you in the right track and keeps you there, both if successful and if not. Use MyGraphs to record progress over time in your blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, height, cholesterol and triglycerides, how far you can run or walk or other measure of endurance, how much you can lift or how many reps you can do, waist size or other size measurements, how many calories you ate or how much fat or protein you take daily, immune suppressant drug levels, creatinine, hemoglobin, white blood cell count, potassium level. You can also track as many as four different measures over time to get a better feel for how your wellness plan impacts outcomes. So, for example, track calories eaten, weight, blood pressure and blood sugar, and see that over time you blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight fall when you reduce your calories, and rise when you “go off the wagon.”

Share these graphs with your doctor, your family, your friends, and they can help motivate you to do the right things and become healthier. Sharing these graphs with your doctors can help them to help you attain the best possible results from your care and treatment. Your treatment plan from the doctor becomes about you specifically, not just anyone.

There is real wisdom in the old adage, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” More than just reading a little, we want to have you DO some things to make yourself healthier. In each topic you will see action items you can choose to follow, and in so doing, will improve your health.

MyLogs

Use My Food Log to calculate how much you consume in protein, fat, calories and other things. We provide the full FDA database on foods, so you can make entries like “McDonald’s hamburger” and the correct calculations appear. Use My Journal to track things that are harder to measure in numbers, or as an alternative to MyGraphs if you prefer over graphs. Use Body Measurements to track weight loss or gain, growth, or other changes. This is a great way to maintain an awareness of things that change over time, like the circumference of your arms to reflect changes in body fat that slowly creep up on us year to year. Use Exercise Log to keep track of what you are actually doing, not what you tell yourself you are doing. The calorie equivalent of exercise is estimated, and you can use MyGraphs to show the comparison of what you are eating in calories to what you are expending in exercise. Use Clinical Measurements to record blood pressures, heart rates, etc as well as things the physician is measuring.

MyWellnessLibrary

MyWellnessLibrary is not merely a rendition of facts on a subject. The format of these entries is a discussion of the topic followed by action items: Learn, Measure, Monitor and Change. These action items help you translate general information into your own Wellness Plan where you DO something about it.

Calculators

Use Calculators to find your BMI (body mass index from your height and weight to give you an idea how ideal your weight is for your frame), body fat (to give you an idea whether you have excess fat over muscle), BMR (basic metabolic rate - the expected daily rate of calory consumption), waist to hip ratio (compare locations of fat and muscle), and target heart rate (to reach beneficial aerobic exercise). Thes calculations combine measurements an give better insight than each measurement on its own. Track the results in MyCalendar, MyGraphs, and Notepad.

Prepare for Physician Visit

Ever come home from seeing a physician and kick yourself for forgetting to ask something important. That is because you were not prepared and / or you relied on memory. Use this tool to organize your thoughts. Collect clinical information, collect your graphs and logs, make a list of questions and symptoms. You can send this electronically to your physician or print it out to take with you. This is a great tool for both you and your physician. You will get more done in shorter time, have fewer mistakes and repeats, and receive higher quality care. A simple tool that goes a long way.
